China's First Mass-Producible Garment Robot Line Debuts in Hangzhou: What Foreign Founders Need to Know

Hangzhou-based Aitu Technology unveils 'Aini' sewing robot and 'Line King' production line, marking a milestone in flexible robotics. Foreign founders can learn about China's manufacturing innovation and opportunities for setting up operations.

China's First Mass-Producible Garment Robot Line Debuts in Hangzhou

On October 28, Zhejiang Aitu Embodied Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd. (Aitu Technology), a subsidiary of Jack Technology Co., Ltd., unveiled its embodied intelligent sewing robot "Aini" and the world's first mass-producible complete garment robot production line, "Line King." The announcement, made in Hangzhou, signals a significant step forward in the application of embodied AI to garment manufacturing. For foreign founders considering establishing or expanding operations in China, this development highlights the country's rapid advancements in industrial automation and smart manufacturing.

Overcoming the Challenges of Flexible Fabric Handling

The textile and garment industry is a traditional pillar of China's economy and a globally competitive sector. However, the sewing process has long been considered a "deep water zone" for industrial robots due to the difficulties of handling flexible materials. Fabric is soft, easily deformed, and comes in numerous types, making tasks like grasping, smoothing, and alignment correction highly dependent on the experience of skilled workers. This reliance has created core pain points: a labor shortage and pressure to transform, which have also been key bottlenecks preventing the mass production of sewing robots.

Aitu Technology's "Aini" robot is designed to address these challenges directly. It is positioned as a "new sewing worker" for real-world workstations and boasts three key capabilities:

At the launch event, "Aini" demonstrated its skills by picking a single piece of fabric from a stack and placing it in a designated position. Notably, when it missed a grab, it did not continue to place material but attempted a second grab, demonstrating real-time observation and judgment capabilities.

Core Technologies Behind the Robot

These capabilities are underpinned by three self-developed technologies: the Tianyanhu AI vision system, the Jiunao Zhangyu large model, and the Linghou Qiaoshou with built-in high-density micro-sensors. For instance, the Jiunao Zhangyu large model, with 50 billion parameters, has learned common patterns in garment craftsmanship from 100,000 hours of actual sewing data, enabling the robot to "learn."

Currently, "Aini" has been deployed at Chenfeng Group, a full-industry-chain garment manufacturer, where it autonomously sews five core processes: shirt collars, cuffs, patch pockets, buttonholes, and button sewing.

"Line King": A Complete Robotic Production Line

Alongside "Aini," the "Line King" production line was officially introduced. Using the North Star AI intelligent system as its scheduling brain, "Line King" integrates an unmanned cutting station, the Lightning AI delivery system, multiple Aini robot sewing units, and an AI intelligent quality inspection module. It enables a continuous intelligent manufacturing loop from a roll of fabric to a finished garment.

Data shows that for the same capacity, a traditional production line requires 40 workers, while "Line King" needs only 12. It also saves 5% of fabric, improves quality by 30%, and shortens delivery time by 20%.

Industry Recognition and Future Outlook

Qu Daokui, president of the China Association for Mechatronics Technology Application, commented that this is not just a product launch but a landmark moment for China's flexible operation robotics segment, moving from "technical verification" to "industrial delivery." He hopes the company will distill craft data from real scenarios into standard consensus, transform it into replicable production line capabilities, and gradually expand from garment to footwear, luggage, home textiles, and other flexible product sectors.

Implications for Foreign Founders

For foreign entrepreneurs looking to register a company or operate in China, this news underscores the country's commitment to advanced manufacturing and AI integration. Hangzhou, as a hub for technology and innovation, offers a supportive ecosystem for businesses in robotics, smart manufacturing, and related fields. Foreign founders can leverage China's industrial upgrading by partnering with local tech firms, setting up R&D centers, or integrating advanced automation into their supply chains. However, navigating the regulatory landscape, intellectual property protection, and talent acquisition requires local expertise.
